Lewis County once stretched from the Columbia River to the Yukon and was named after the Captain of the Corps of Discover, Captain Meriwether Lewis. Known as the “Mother of all Counties,” Lewis County was carved up as the Northwest Territory became more populated by settlers of European origin.
