Mount Rainier

Lewis County, WA Visitor Info
Lewis County, WA Visitor Info
Mount Rainier is the most outstanding landmark throughout Lewis County. Rising 14,410 feet above sea level (the second highest peak in the lower 48 states), this snow-capped mountain has a commanding presence. It is an active volcano encased in 35 square miles of snow and ice and a very popular outdoor recreation area.

The Ohanapecosh entrance to the National Park is accessible east of Packwood on the way to White Pass. In the warm weather months, one can also take the scenic drive on Skate Creek Road from Packwood to the Paradise entrance of Mount Rainier National Park - or make a day loop drive starting in Packwood, proceeding to Paradise, through the park, to the old growth specimens at the Grove of the Patriarchs, to Ohanapecosh and return to Packwood.  Visitors also access the park by taking Hwy. 7 from Morton.

People travel to the Mount Rainier region for adventure, exploration, relaxation, sightseeing, cooler temperatures, and fresh mountain air.
