In the National Forest lands, outside of the park boundaries, people make special trips in the late summer and fall to gather prized wild huckleberries and delectable wild mushrooms.

Many different varieties of wild blackberries line country roads, and fields. They ripen from early July into the fall. Please avoid private property and make certain the berry patch you choose has not been sprayed.

Wild Mushrooms
The gathering of mushrooms in the Gifford Pinchot National Forest requires a Personal Use Permit. Limits are enforced. Novices should seek expert advice before gathering or eating any mushrooms found in the wild.
